Hi everyone. I wanted to have an open and honest discussion about the recent news regarding the removal of Turkish from the Syrian education curriculum (while Kurdish is kept as an elective). I want to say this without any passive-aggressiveness, just sharing how it genuinely feels from our side.

Frankly, hearing this news in Turkey creates a sense of disappointment. After years of supporting the Syrian opposition, trying to maintain a supportive stance during this current reunification process, and hosting millions of refugees for over a decade, many people here can't help but feel a bit hurt, thinking, "Is this the response we get?"

But even putting all the politics and bilateral issues completely aside... why is it being forgotten that Syrian Turkmen are a native, historical element of Syria? They are your own people, your own citizens.

In these critical days of rebuilding the country and establishing a new, united Syria, denying the Turkmen a cultural right that is being granted to another minority feels like it will only breed a deep sense of injustice and inequality right from the start. A Syrian Turkmen child should have the exact same rights to their mother tongue as a Syrian Kurdish child.

I genuinely want to understand how this is viewed from your side. What are your honest thoughts on this?

The new curriculum changes and the double standard against the Syrian Turkmen minority.
