Advice with my parents
Little back story now ive moved abroad to study medicine this last year and towards the end of the year nearing the exam season i felt really depressed, unmotivated and burnt out aswell as my adhd was starting to become intolerable.I would lay in bed all day either sleeping or mindlessly doom scrolling, i wouldnt study and i wouldnt interact with anyone as i felt so empty.
I also smoked at that time too which my mom found out and it lead to a big argument about trust and not doing bad things which i completely understand( this happened after the exam season during the summer) , due to everything i was doing i failed 5 subjects which is obviously terrible but i didnt have the heart to tell them about that as my grandmother passed away at that time, so my family was stressed especially my father and i didnt want to disappoint my mother even further as she already found out something i did before which upset her so ofcourse i kept it to myself and only told them i failed 2 subjects which i will have to sit again in September ( this is pretty common in my university especially in the first year)
Now i studied throughout the summer knowing failing the year wasnt a option i wanted to even consider and also failing again would lead to consequences of them knowing, comes the exam session this week and the previous one and i had to sit a total of 8 exams in 10 days which of course is a very tightly crammed schedule.Even then the first 5 i passed without a problem even getting very good grade as i am not dumb but my adhd just gets in the way of me excelling in my studies. Now this week i had three exams Anatomy, polish(i study in a polish university so i have to take a elective course of learning the language) and histology. I passed anatomy but the exam was at 9pm and i came home at 11:30pm and polish was the next day and i fell asleep accidentally instead of revising at night and naturally i failed it because i didnt have enough time to refresh it in my head but i passed the last exam which was histology.
Now here is the tricky part as i only told my parents about failing anatomy and medical biology i had to lie and tell them my anatomy exam was my last one which was actually the day of the histology exam so i would force myself to go all out and not fail so i can travel back home the next day.
But now due to me failing polish i had to tell them that i lied and never told them i failed it ofcourse because i didnt want to stress them out as i knew i would pass my exams without a problem so the unnecessary stress wouldnt have helped either of us as they always put immense pressure on my academics. But since i told them the truth they havent been contacting me at all they think im very stupid and are genuinely scared i will fail out because of polish which is my last exam in 7 days thats more than enough time to study and the reason i failed it was due to being extremely fatigued in those 10 days of exams and falling asleep.
So the part i need advice on is how do i explain to them that i didnt mean to disappoint them by lying and that the exam wont be a problem once i just study for it as i passed all my medical subjects which are miles harder than a polish exam and once i sit the exam one more time i will easily pass, because they literally wont hear me out they wont understand or accept my point of view and i wish they only knew what i went through those two weeks because passing all those exams in such a small amount of time is something no one in this university has done there are people with way less exams than me that have already failed out or still havent passed everything yet.
So how can i approach this situation and i know im in the wrong but is what i did reasonable and also would letting them know the crazy two weeks of exams i went through while studying and passing everything would that help calm them down and make them realise that the polish exam wont be a problem.
Because this whole thing is stressing me out as i have had three massive fights and arguments this summer alone and they dont trust me and we arent on good terms what so ever which is also partially my fault which i have my own reasons for but this whole situation has been stressing me out especially because my mum always told me if you lie tell the truth when you can and i wont be upset and its exactly what i did this time as my friends told me to say i failed one of the exams i told them about and go pass my polish exam and they would never know which i regret not doing but i told them the truth about the lie of polish instead because i thought they would be more stressed and worried with me having to sit another anatomy exam which is obviously miles harder than a polish quiz, and i tried explaining that but it didnt matter to them as they are extremely mad about me lying which is understandable but i wish they could just see my point of view.
I was struggling with mental health and my own problems and i fixed it and picked myself back up thats all there is to it and i wish they could understand that instead of criticising every one of my actions.
Thank you for reading and if you have any advice please let me know
