My landlord offered me a ride from Berlin to Magdeburg. Is this normal/safe?

Hi everyone,
I’m an international student moving to Germany very soon, and I’d appreciate some advice from people who live in Germany or have experience renting there.
Three of us are renting an apartment in Magdeburg. The landlord/owner lives in Berlin and owns the apartment in Magdeburg.
I will arrive in Berlin on September 16 and stay at a relative’s place for one night. I told my landlord that I would travel to Magdeburg on September 17, and he offered to pick me up in his car and drive me from Berlin to Magdeburg.
I have only communicated with him regarding the apartment so far, and I have never met him in person.
My situation is a little different because I will be the only one arriving on September 17. The other two tenants will arrive on September 24. They are flying into Frankfurt and will travel to Magdeburg by train, so I would be travelling alone with the landlord if I accepted his offer.
I’m wondering:
Is it common in Germany for a landlord to offer a new tenant a free ride from another city?
Would you personally accept the ride in this situation, or would you take the train instead?
Is there anything I should be careful about before accepting?
Since I’m completely new to Germany, am I being unnecessarily paranoid by feeling a little uncomfortable about travelling alone with someone I’ve never met?
Would it be better to meet him at the apartment instead and travel independently?
I’m not trying to accuse him of anything. He may simply be trying to be helpful, and I don’t want to reject a perfectly normal gesture just because I’m unfamiliar with how things work in Germany.
At the same time, I’ll be alone, I’ve never met him before, and I’m a new student in a completely new country, so I want to make the sensible decision.
What would you do in my situation?

Hey everyone, I’m really sorry for mentioning my landlord’s name in the previous post. I realize now that I shouldn’t have shared his personal information publicly.
I only mentioned it because I’m completely new to Germany and wasn’t familiar with German names, and I thought knowing his name might help me understand whether he is German. But looking back, that was unnecessary and I should have respected his privacy.
I’ve removed his name from the post. Sorry about that, and thank you to everyone who pointed it out.
