My 5-month-old absolutely hates the car seat
My LO is 5 months old and absolutely hates being in the car seat. She’s usually happy for the first 5–10 minutes, but then the fussing starts. That’s when we try everything we can think of — toys, songs, pacifier, etc.
We’ve tried giving her a pacifier, but she mostly uses it as a teether (which is totally fine), and then starts crying as soon as it falls out of her hands. Once she starts getting sleepy, though, the crying becomes completely uncontrollable. We often end up having to pull over and pick her up because she just won’t settle otherwise. She is not able to put herself to sleep as at home she is used to being rocked to sleep.
I feel like we have tried almost every suggestion we have found on Reddit and elsewhere:
● Happy songs/music
● Different toys and distractions
● Baby Einstein aquarium
● Pacifiers
● Feeding her before we leave
● Switching from an infant car seat to a convertible car seat
Nothing seems to be working for us.
It’s becoming really difficult to travel anywhere or even run basic errands. I know some babies just dislike the car, but I’m really hoping there’s something we haven’t tried yet.
If your baby went through this, what actually helped? Did they eventually grow out of it, or did you find something that made car rides more manageable?
Desperately looking for suggestions — I’ll try just about anything at this point!
