What should I do academically?
I'm currently a sophomore studying Industrial Engineering at a T5 program and have heavily been reconsidering switching into EE as I feel like I've made a mistake in terms of career goals and what truly interests me. I'm currently pursuing an ECE minor and plan to use most of my technical electives towards more EE courses while also engaging in engineering clubs/programs to deepen my technical skills and create somewhat of a unique profile.
Unfortunately, due to borderline insane requirements, I'm not easily able to switch my major back to EE at my current school and have considered the following:
- Stay in IE and potentially pursue a MSEE while continuing with my ECE minor.
- Switch to a T20 school to hopefully pursue a BSEE there.
My main reason for coming on here right now is not knowing what the real career options are with the first option and for also not knowing what I'll really lose from switching to a lower ranked school. I don't mean that in a harsh way but I'm trying to really understand from you all and especially those of you who have worked in recruiting, how they view this shift and what you would advise me to do. Is an IE bachelor’s + ECE minor + EE coursework + possibly MSEE a legitimate path into EE-type careers, and if not, is it worth giving up a T5 engineering school to get the BSEE?
I would really appreciate any advice and PM's are always open. I can also go into more detail about what schools I'm really talking about.
