TVO ILC’s AI detection / support system is actually ridiculous
I’m posting this because I genuinely want to know whether anyone else taking TVO ILC has dealt with this.
Before everyone immediately comments “well, did you just copy and paste ChatGPT?”, no, I did not copy and paste an AI-generated assignment and submit it as my own. I worked through the assignment, completed the required planning process, revised my writing, changed wording and ideas myself, and submitted a planner/graphic organizer, rough draft, editing/proofreading checklist, and final copy.
I’m taking ENG3C as a prerequisite for Dental Hygiene. This is actually the second submission of Assignment 1.5 because I already had to redo it once. The second time around, I specifically made sure I completed every part of the process they required.
The Turnitin Similarity Report that students can actually see shows 14% similarity. I went through the individual matches myself, and a lot of what Turnitin identifies consists of things like factual information, names, references and citations.
Then I received feedback saying that a completely separate Turnitin AI Writing Report classified 76% of my submission as AI writing, described as “most of the blog.”And this is where I completely lose them. They instructed me to “redo the AI-flagged part(s) from scratch.” But literally right above that, they tell me the AI Writing Report is teacher-facing only and students cannot view it.
How am I supposed to redo the specific portions that were supposedly flagged when I’m not even allowed to see which portions were flagged?
“Most of the blog” is not actionable feedback. If an automated system is being used as part of an academic-integrity determination, and that determination can prevent my assignment from being marked, I think I should at minimum receive specific information about what writing is actually being questioned.
I called ILC today, submitted an Academic Help request, and sent them a formal email requesting an urgent human review of my actual work—including the planner, rough draft and final submission—rather than simply being referred back to a percentage produced by a report I cannot see.
The other part that has made me incredibly frustrated is the turnaround time. Academic Help can take around 3 business days, and their automated email response says 3–5 business days. I’ve already been experiencing multi-day turnaround times while working through this course since August.
Normally that would just be annoying. In my situation, it has actual consequences.
I’m completing ENG3C specifically as a prerequisite for a Dental Hygiene program. I called the school today and, because I have not been able to complete this prerequisite in time, I’ve now been told I cannot make the October intake and may have to wait until April 2027.
So what started as an issue with one English assignment may now delay my post-secondary education by approximately six months.
I’m genuinely extremely frustrated.
Has anyone here dealt with an ILC AI Writing flag like this? Were you able to get an actual human review? Did Academic Help resolve it, or did you have to appeal?
I’d especially like to hear from anyone who was instructed to rewrite “AI-flagged” sections while simultaneously being unable to access the report showing what was flagged.
