What kind of icon or catholic painting would be ideal to gift?

I want to write/paint an icon for my MIL who is catholic. She loves Mary. I am eastern orthodox so I go to a different church and write orthodox icons. We are from the same country and speak the same language. I don't know if writing a traditional orthodox icon would be okay or if I should just paint Mary similar to how icons are written and gift that. What would be appropriate?
