Is it typical to have your case manager tell you to wait till next recertification to adjust income?

Hi. I recently went from zero income to 80 percent VA disability. I sent to proper paper to the housing authority via theit portal and it came back denied. I asked my case manager about this via email and he told me don’t worry I’ll adjust your income at the next recertification date…. which is literally in July 2027…. I just wanna make sure I’m not gonna get in trouble and owe back pay. I’m currently setting aside the 30 percent income just in case. I asked my hudvash case manager about it and he said it’s unusual
