Section braids before or after cut?

This might be a silly question.. some background: I'm going to get my haircut by my neighbor. She's been doing it for years and everytime I get cut with her she does a great job. However she usually works on pretty traditional styles. I asked if she had any availability for a hair cut, and I'm hoping we can do a short cut with rattails. Should I section out my braids before the appointment or ask if she can do it so she can wash/cut my hair easier?
