Canada/Quebec : seeking first-hand accounts

I'm (32M, german citizen, fluent french-speaking) considering moving to Québec for 1/2 years to gain work experience. I am an environmental scientist and have some experience in environmental research, conservation, environmental planning and environmental policy. I'd probably aim for Montréal initially.

I would love to hear from people (especially from Europe) who have actually are in/have gone through the process of establishing themselves there :

- How difficult is it to find your first professional job/housing?

- How difficult was it to make friends and build a social circle?

- For people who came initially intending to stay temporarily, what happened in reality? Did you end up wanting to stay permanently?

- What would you say to your earlier self that you weren't prepared for?
