I'm the developer of Kinship Vault, and the latest update just shipped with the biggest change to the vault structure since launch: multiple vaults, sensitive vaults, and shared vaults.

Your vault no longer has to be one pile.

You can have a Personal vault, a Work vault, a Family vault, put genuinely sensitive things behind a second lock, and share an entire vault with your partner, family, or team without handing anyone a master password.

The previous major update was about passwords. Kinship Vault added password management, passkeys, 2FA codes and AutoFill, so your logins could live alongside the documents, photos and other important things already in your vault.

This update takes that one step further: now those things don't all have to live in the same vault either.

**What's new**

**Multiple vaults.** Make as many vaults as your life needs. Personal, work, a side business, a vault for the house.

These aren't folders or tags sitting over one database. Each vault has its own database and its own key sealed in your device's hardware. Opening one leaves the others shut, so work logins genuinely cannot spill into personal.

AutoFill still reaches across all unlocked vaults, so having four vaults doesn't mean making your workflow harder. Every login and passkey is labelled with the vault it came from, and every fill still asks for your face.

**Sensitive vaults.** Some things deserve more than the rest. Medical records, a will, the paperwork from a bad year.

A sensitive vault has its own lock inside the app, so opening the app doesn't open it. It never accepts a short app PIN and it can never be shared.

Your 24-word phrase can restore it, but it comes back still sealed. Only its own password or its own recovery code opens it.

**Shared vaults.** Share the vault, not the password.

Invite someone by name, confirm with Face ID, then send them a private invite or show a QR if they're sitting right there. The invite is tied to the Apple ID you selected.

Everyone opens the vault with their own Face ID or Touch ID. There's no shared master password and nothing for anyone to write on a sticky note.

Only the person who creates the shared vault needs the Shared plan. Everyone they invite joins at no cost.

**Remove someone and the key actually rotates.**

When you remove a member, the vault key is rotated and re-wrapped to everyone who stays. The person you removed is locked out of everything added afterward, rather than simply disappearing from a member list while still holding a working key.

One honest caveat: rotating can't un-see a password someone already memorised. After removing someone, change anything critical they knew.

**A - Answer**

Kinship Vault is an offline vault for the things your household can't afford to lose: IDs, health cards, wills, deeds, travel documents, private photos, passwords, passkeys and 2FA codes.

Now those things don't have to live in one vault either.

Each vault has its own database and encryption key, sealed in your device's hardware. Your existing vault simply becomes your first vault, in the same place, with the same key, the same 24-word phrase and the same AutoFill.

If you don't need multiple vaults or sharing, nothing changes. You can keep using it exactly as before.

The underlying idea hasn't changed either: no Kinship server holding your vault keys, no account to phish, no password-reset email for us to send.

**B - Better**

The reason I built multiple vaults this way instead of making them folders is pretty simple: a folder isn't a security boundary.

If Personal and Work are just two labels over one database, opening the vault means you've opened everything.

With Kinship Vault, each vault has its own database and its own key. Opening Personal doesn't expose the Work vault. A sensitive vault goes further and has its own password even after you've unlocked the app.

And sharing isn't a shared password either.

When you share a vault, each member gets their own copy of the vault key wrapped to their own device. Remove someone and the vault key rotates for everyone who remains.

There is still no Kinship server sitting in the middle.

For Strict Offline, your personal vaults remain entirely on the device. Sharing is different because something obviously has to get the encrypted data to another person, so shared vaults use iCloud to relay ciphertext. The data remains encrypted and the keys aren't readable by us.

**Where it earns its keep:**

**Personal and work are actually separate.** Your work credentials, client documents and VPN logins can live behind their own vault instead of sitting beside your passport and family documents.

**Your partner gets the family vault without getting your personal vault.** Share the vault containing utilities, family documents, streaming accounts or whatever you actually want to share, while your personal vault stays yours. Sharing subscriptions with friends but keep juggling passwords in chat, this is the way to go.

**The things you really don't want casually opened get their own wall.** Keep a will, sensitive records or other private material in a sensitive vault that cannot be shared not even by mistake and cannot be opened with the normal app PIN.

**Someone leaves the shared vault.** Remove them and the key rotates. They're locked out of anything added afterward. If they knew an old password, obviously change it. Cryptography can't fix human memory. You can always stop sharing as an owner and every member lose access to that vault.

**AutoFill still works across the mess.** Multiple vaults don't mean hunting through four apps. Unlock the vaults you need and their logins and passkeys remain available through AutoFill.

**Your current vault doesn't get blown up by the update.** It becomes your first vault with the same data, key, recovery phrase and AutoFill. You don't have to reorganize anything.

And everything else is still there: on-device document scanning, encrypted photos, passwords and passkeys, 2FA codes, Recovery Network, expiry alerts, custom record types, Security Checkup, and the native Mac app.

**Same root idea: no server in the middle.**

The vault key is generated on your device. Your device's hardware protects it. Encrypted data can live in your own iCloud backup, but Kinship doesn't hold a copy of the key that could decrypt it.

That's still the part I care about most.

**C - Cost**

Start free with your first 3 documents.

For the launch, I'm offering the lifetime plans at a lower launch price for a limited time:

**Solo Lifetime: $39.99**
**Shared Lifetime: $89.99**

No subscription required for lifetime. Buy once, keep it for life.

If you prefer a **subscription, Solo is $2.99/month or $19.99/year, while Shared is $4.99/month or $34.99/year.**

**Solo includes** everything in the vault, including multiple vaults, Sensitive Vaults, passwords and passkeys, encrypted photos, Recovery Network, encrypted backups, Smart Scan, custom record types and Security Checkup.

**Shared adds** Shared Vaults. Only the person creating a Shared Vault needs the Shared plan. Everyone they invite joins at no cost.

One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac on the same Apple Account.

Android is a separate app. It doesn't have Multiple Vaults, Sensitive Vaults or Shared Vaults yet, but the existing Android vault continues to work as before.

Let me know, how would you split your vaults?

Personal and work? You and your partner? Family? Something else?

A lot of this release came directly from people describing workflows I hadn't considered.

Happy to answer any details in the comments.

Kinship Vault was built around one vault. Now you can keep things separate, lock them down, and share them when you choose.
