Willpower isn't the thing that's broken. What's broken is that nobody ever finds out either way.

Tips and Tricks

There's a specific test that exposes something most self-improvement advice ignores: does the same task change if you know for a fact nobody will ever find out whether you did it or not?

For a lot of people the honest answer is yes, and not by a small margin. not because they're lazy or lack discipline in some abstract sense, but because the entire cost of skipping something private is zero. no one asks. No one notices. The only consequence lives entirely inside your own head, and it turns out that's a very easy consequence to talk yourself out of.

This is probably why so much advice about building better habits keeps failing for the same people over and over. It keeps trying to fix the task ( better app, clearer plan, smaller steps) when the actual gap is that nothing outside your own head is tracking whether you followed through

The people who seem to have genuinely more discipline than everyone else usually aren't running on more willpower. They've just arranged their lives so more things aren't private anymore.

What s the thing you're most consistent about, and is it a coincidence that someone else usually knows either way?
