E's comments about "mental health"

Elphaba

Happened to catch the end of E's live on Tiktok today and I'm beyond words. I was debating if I'd even make this post because it's giving her attention but I'm just so livid.

E said that psychosis is not "mental health" and that "your body just goes to override and you don't know what you're doing". A bit later she said it's "a mental illness". I admit I went to send an angry voice message in between so I didn't catch what was said in between but the chat seemed to confirm se said "mental health" is "like just being depressed".

Holy mother cow and deer in dungarees.
Mental health isn't a condition, a diagnosis, a mood or a feeling. You don't go around saying "I have health" when you've broken a leg or have pneumonia. You say "my health isn't great".

People have mental health, absolutely everyone has mental health. Some have no struggles with mental health and some struggle with their mental health.
If you struggle with mental health, you have mental health conditions OR mental illnesses.
If you don't, people tend to say they have good mental health.

If it was bait, alright count me baited I guess.

Just. Pretty please, to everyone in general, if you're going to go online and speak on things with the confidence of a lemming on speed on the edge of a cliff, just please learn the terms you're using. That's the least you can do. If you're willing to educatw yourself and say "I'm not sure if this is the right thing, let me know if it isn't, but I think..." that's different, that's a(n honest) conversation. If you want to confindently spout an opinion, the least you can do is learn the basic terminology and how language works for crying out loud.
