Hi everyone,

I noticed a small sore/white spot underneath my tongue around mid-August. At first I thought it might just be a small “pimple” or irritation, as I could feel some discomfort but hadn't actually looked at it closely.

Around that time, I may have burned or irritated the area with very hot mate. I'm a little smoker and drinker. 

The discomfort seemed to improve and the white spot appeared to go away, but it has now come back in roughly the same area.

One additional detail: when I touch the area with my tongue/finger, I can feel a very small bump underneath or around the white spot. It feels somewhat like a tiny “pimple” or raised area rather than just a flat discoloration.

It is currently mildly painful/uncomfortable. I don't have significant swelling, severe pain, or any other symptoms, and I otherwise feel well.

I'm wondering whether this could be an aphthous ulcer, irritation/trauma, an inflamed or blocked salivary duct/gland, or something else.

I'm planning to see a dentist/doctor if it persists, but I'd appreciate an opinion from anyone with dental/oral medicine experience. Does the appearance sound more consistent with something benign, or is there anything specific I should have checked?

I can provide a clear photo taken in natural light tomorrow.
