What likely became of Admiral Satie following "The Drumhead?" If you were Admiral Henry, how would you have handled the aftermath?
(First post here!) I watched "The Drumhead" yesterday and that episode really stuck with me. It also made me wonder what the long term consequences for (Ret.) Admiral Satie following her exposure and outburst.
For context, I'm going to follow the more optimistic portrayal of life in TOS and TNG vs the more cynical outlook of NuTrek.
My speculation is that Admiral Satie's reputation was serious damaged, if not completely ruined, and Starfleet would not call on her out of retirement for any more investigations.
Admiral Henry looked completely disgusted as he walked out of the hearing to call an end to it.
If I were Admiral Henry, I feel the need to take considerable action to ensure that the reputation and integrity of Starfleet's investigatory organs are upheld. I would:
- (Assuming I have the authority in Starfleet to do so) Have Satie removed from consideration for any future investigation projects.
- Work with Starfleet's Inspector generation to form a council in order to review Satie's past investigations. Identify earlier instances of misconduct from her and her team, and identify any cases which need to be reopened.
- Question Satie's two assistants while my staff investigates their background. Refer them to disciplinary hearings for their conduct.
- In particular, investigate the Betazoid to see if his emotional recognition is genuine or if he's basically a drug dog that signals on command. Work with science officers to develop a test. A possibility would be to have volunteers don a wearable brain scanner and silently recall memories with strong emotional components, and see if the Betazoid can correctly identify them. If he can't, then he's in a world of trouble.
