I actually shed a tear over Werner

Currently watching Better Call Saul for the second time, this time with my girlfriend who’s watching it for the first time. We just finished S4E10 and I genuinely don’t know why, but the Werner and Mike storyline hit me way harder this time. I actually shed a tear during the scene before Mike had to kill him, which almost never happens to me with movies or TV shows.
I think what makes it so sad is the relationship Mike and Werner had throughout the whole thing. They weren’t exactly friends, but they had this weird lowkey friendship and mutual respect, and you could tell Mike genuinely liked the guy. Seeing how sad Mike was after realizing what he had to do made it even worse.
And Werner being willing to risk everything just because he wanted to see his wife again is fucking heartbreaking. Especially when he has to shout at her that he doesn’t want to see her and that she should go back. He knows exactly what he’s doing, but you can still feel how much it destroys him.
Honestly, after Chicanery, this is probably my favorite episode so far. Obviously not counting the episodes I haven’t reached yet on this rewatch.
