New player question

Me and my friend are just getting into magic the gathering and we loved the welcome decks so we both got a 60 card themed deck and I got the life gain deck and he got the pirate deck. But it seems like it’s impossible for him to win is that just the decks being unbalanced and if so where should we go purchase wise.
