Dialog changes in the remake
The original game, to me, is the best game that has ever been produced. I began playing it when I was a kid and have replayed it many times since, and as time passed between replays, I saw that there are multiple layers to it that were conveyed in a masterful way through its dialog.
After all that we have been shown about the remake, I must say I'm worried that they have made substantial modifications to the dialog that will make the game lose some of its subtext. One of the main underlying points (i.e see this superb analysis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyUcwsjyd8Q which of course most people here have already seen) is the growing up theme and its associated trauma and pain. For example, when you leave the forest you get the cutscene where Saria says goodbye. This cutscene has a very solemn and nostalgic mood that, at first, is a heavy contrast with the story progression so far. Of course later on its significance becomes clear. In the remake, we instead get (from what has been shown) a voice acted scene where Saria speaks in a very childlike fashion ("you're my friend... Forever and ever"). I feel like there is a major tone shift and Saria's personality has nothing to do with its former. I worry that this will run throughout the game (all the cutscenes with Sheik).
Anyways, the dialog is magisterial in the first one, and I've sometimes felt that it is very under appreciated (or at least not vocally appreciated enough). Though you can of course change things from it (for instance, to adapt to voice acting) I feel like you should not steer away too much. I am curious as to what other people think as I have not seen this point (apart from the related voice acting vs no voice acting topic) being discussed atm.
