TMJ Diagnosis after starting Vyvanse

Medication & Side Effects

Hello all! Not seeking medical advice but want to hear personal anecdotes regarding this ADHD medication, stories, insight, whatever it may be.

I started 30mg of Vyvanse as the first ever ADHD medication I’ve ever been on (23y/o F) back in April of this year. Sometime in late June I went up to a 40mg dose. By July 4th I had noticed soreness in my jaw. The only way I could describe it is “restless”. My jaw shifts back and forth, shakes when I attempt to hold it still, and I tend to grind my teeth. It has gotten worse over the past two months with times it seems to “flare” up. These symptoms are all new to me, I’ve never had a tendency to do anything of the sort.

I have seen my primary care physician regarding these symptoms (as well as a trip to the ER when at one point I thought it was dislocated). A few things were noted:
- I am to start PT in October for my Jaw
- received a TMJ diagnosis
- I am to reach out to my dentist
- I am suggested to buy an OTC mouth guard
- they do not want to change the vyvanse dose. Their initial belief is that this is stress related

I have been prescribed Naproxen to help relieve pain and inflammation as they believe it is my muscles hurting and it appears to feel and look mis-aligned (alongside popping occurring as I open and close, which I can’t do very wide).

Does anyone have experience with anything similar? Or can provide any sort of tips for relief?
