Unfriending/blocking

Broke up with my ex for my mental health (I repeatedly told him I did not want to break up) prior to me telling him I couldn't continue what we were doing (he is military, constantly gone for work, pending a deployment, and he was minimizing our communication "to reduce chances of us fighting related to stuff with his work schedule"). He unfriended me on Facebook exactly a month after our breakup/no contact. A week later I accidentally called his number, hung up before it connected, he immediately called me back and texted me asking if I was okay. I texted him back saying yes it was an accident and he texted me saying ok he just wanted to make sure I was okay and didn't need anything. 3 weeks later, a day after I change my profile picture on Facebook he blocks me. Just trying to get closure without contacting him and wondering what the purpose of him blocking me on Facebook was for?
