Why do kiwis feel so hard done by? Zoom out a little.

I can’t work out the mindset of some New Zealanders. Always focusing on the negatives and feeling like we’ve got it way worse than everywhere else.

I’ve just got back to NZ after 8 years living overseas. 5 in UK, 3 in Australia (Syd and Melb).

Guess what, they still complain about their situations too.

Their groceries are getting more expensive, their housing is unaffordable, rents are ridiculous, wages aren’t keeping up with the cost of living, public services are under pressure, traffic is terrible, and plenty of people are wondering how they’re ever going to get ahead.

We’re certainly not perfect, but sometimes I think we’ve convinced ourselves that these problems are uniquely ours, and that somewhere else there’s this magical country where everyone earns twice as much, houses are cheap, the government gets everything right and nobody complains.

I’m absolutely loving being back here, we’re lucky to have this beautiful country, I just think some people don’t know how good we’ve actually got it.

Bus rant over, have a Good Friday :)
