I love my grandpa more than I can ever put into words. He passed away during COVID due to multiple organ failure, and even after all this time, there are moments when I still find myself missing him like it happened yesterday.
I’m the youngest of six grandchildren, but I was lucky enough to have something very special with my grandparents. They raised me until I was eight, so my grandpa wasn’t just my grandfather—he was a huge part of my childhood and the person who helped shape who I am.
I remember the little things the most. He would call me to cut his nails, ask me to help him with things, and somehow those ordinary moments have become some of the most precious memories I have of him. I never knew then that I would one day give anything just to hear him call me again.
One of his last wishes was to eat mutton paya. But it was lockdown, and no matter how much I wanted to, I couldn’t get it for him. That still hurts me. It feels like such a small thing, but when someone you love is gone, the things you couldn’t do for them can stay with you forever.
And this watch is incredibly precious to me. To anyone else, it might just be a watch. To me, it’s something that connects me to him. It carries memories of a man I loved deeply, a man who was there for me when I was a child, and a man I wish I could have just one more conversation with.
I miss him. I miss his voice, his presence, the little things he used to ask me to do, and even the moments I probably took for granted back then.
I just wish I had one more day with him. One more conversation. One more chance to do something for him.
I love you, Grandpa. I always will. ❤️
