What Was The Best Gift You Got From Diagnosis?
Years ago, a psychiatrist had me take an autism screening test. I never thought I was autistic (even though it runs in my family) but I did score in the "mild-moderate" chance category. But then when I talked to him about it, he said that diagnosis wouldn't change much for me - that the question is "what would we do differently?" And, in that light, he didn't think pursing the issue would be helpful to me..... I've left it at that for years. I do joke with my husband that my noise-canceling headphones are my "autism headphones" and sometimes blame "the 'tism" when I take something way too literally but it's just been an unanswered question.
Someone else here posted a thread saying that her therapist is actually neurodivergent herself and that's been a huge game changer for her. So, that got me thinking... I feel like that would REALLY help me! Maybe I should pursue the diagnosis and look into this therapy thing (specific to neurodivergent people)? What have been your biggest wins after diagnosis?
