Sharing this one since a lot of homeowners in the Las Vegas Valley don't realize the soil itself plays a role in water main lifespan until they're dealing with a failure.

We completed a water main replacement for a home in Henderson. A large part of the underlying soil in this region is caliche, a hard, cemented, calcium carbonate-rich layer that forms naturally in arid climates like ours. Unlike softer, more uniform soil, caliche can shift and settle unevenly, which puts ongoing mechanical stress on buried pipe that isn't as much of a factor in regions with different soil composition.

The scope of this job: locating the existing water main, excavating to expose the failing section, replacing it, and pressure testing the new line before backfilling. Pressure testing matters because a line can look fine visually and still have a leak that only shows up under actual system pressure, skipping this step is a common shortcut that leads to callbacks.

Water main work in Henderson falls under city permit and inspection requirements, which is part of why proper documentation and testing matter, not just for compliance but because it confirms the work will hold up long term.
