Wishing we had a different option than public school

Watching the light fade from your child’s eyes due to public schooling is one of the hardest things I’ve had to witness in his short life. My child had the most amazing preschool experience at a private church preschool and was well beyond prepared academically for kindergarten. Public kindergarten was nothing short of a repeat of PreK for them. My child was often overlooked as they did not struggle academically and did not have any behavior concerns. I noticed mid year my child Started to not like school but really hit it off with a classmate and was still able to play together so that kept their spirits up through the end of the year. Now The jump from Kindergarten to 1st grade has been even more disheartening as my child is struggling with the fact that there are no toys in the class, no centers, etc. it’s a lot more work and a lot less play. It hurts my mom heart because at 6 and 7 I know they still need to learn by playing some of the time! He is still not struggling academically but I just see it sucking the life out of his eyes. Homeschooling is not really in the cards right now but I am willing to homeschool at a certain point if necessary (I do not feel we are there yet as a family) As much as I wish we could afford private school that is also not in the cards. I just don’t even know what to do but I hate seeing how sad going to school makes him these days 🙁
