Losing interest in video games

Discussion

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a common post.

As a kid, I remember my Dad telling me that 'games are cool but I just don't have the patience'

I could never wrap my head around that as a kid, but now at 43 I am starting to understand. It is starting to feel like a chore. I was incredibly excited for this fall as there are many releases that interest me but now that I have several in hand I find myself having to somewhat force myself to play and that feeling has been building for a few years. I think what is going on subconsciously is that the reward (which is imaginary...thriving in and completing a game world) is no longer worth the effort...which is in the real world. My reduced skill, patience, and the fact that I have at this point seen and done most things that are done in games many, many times over might mean that after 25 years, this hobby is mostly coming to a close unless the game is incredibly good.

That's a shame because they were a fantastic way to pass time. I never thought it would be the case, but hobbies centered in the banal real world, such as pickleball, camping, and reading, are outpacing all the wild worlds I enjoyed for so long. Guessing I'm not alone either.
