Did I ruin my son’s chance?
My son is diagnosed ASD level 3, ADHD, PICA, and is nonverbal. He turns 6 in November and has been enrolled in the sped program at our local school since he was 3. He currently has no functional communication, is no where near potty training, and needs help in all aspects of life. Since this school year began and he entered kindergarten his shift in goals changed and he has been getting work far too advanced for him. (Spelling lists, working on phonics, etc.) because of this and a slew of other reasons I have decided in center ABA full time is what is best for him and his doctors are in agreement.
I can’t help but think that I wasted the most important years of his life focusing on doing school and waiting until now to do ABA so intensively. Is there a chance it’s not too late and he may be able to gain some life skills?
