Armpits smell *less* after not shaving for a month?

I haven't shaved my armpits in over a month, and I've started realizing they smell less now than they did when I shaved regularly. When I shaved, my deodorant would never last all day, it would usually quit on me halfway through my day and I'd have to reapply. But now my deodorant is actually lasting without reapplying.

Has anyone else ditched the razor and noticed this? I tried searching online, and the only thing I could find was shaving irritation causing more BO, but I never had a problem with irritation. Maybe the hair holds onto more deodorant better than clean-shaven skin?
