Earning more didn’t automatically make me feel financially secure

Budgeting 💰

For a long time, I assumed that earning more would naturally make money feel less stressful. But lifestyle upgrades, irregular expenses and having too many competing priorities can make a higher income feel just as unclear as a lower one.

What helped me was separating the idea of “having money” from actually having a system:

  • knowing what my fixed expenses really require
  • planning for costs that don’t happen every month
  • deciding how much is for future goals
  • keeping some money for enjoyment without guilt
  • reviewing spending without turning it into self-judgment

The biggest shift was realising that financial security isn’t only about increasing income. It’s also about knowing what your money is meant to do.

For the women here, what created the biggest sense of financial security for you: more income, fewer fixed expenses, automated saving, or a clearer system?
