Dismissal Woes....

Schools

I have a life skills student who has been in speech therapy for over ten years, qualifying under autism and speech/language impairment. This is my first year with this student, and I just completed his reevaluation. The student is a teenager and works on /th/, categories, and answering wh-questions in texts. His evaluation revealed that his only error is /th/ (stimulable with max modeling and prompting at the word level), and that his language abilities are commensurate with his nonverbal IQ scores. I'm having a hard time with qualifying him. On one hand, his articulation scores are below a 78, but with it only being a /th/ error, it doesn't impact his ability to communicate, his intelligibility, or his participation. This student is extremely intelligible despite this error, which I feel is minor. As for language, his scores are below a 78, but he is scoring exactly where his Nonverbal IQ scores are. He is able to answer basic wh-questions, is able to tell and retell stories with detail, has sufficient sentence structure and grammar, and is able to follow directions. For all purposes, he seems to have functional communication skills.

I have never worked with life skills before, so I'm at a loss on what to do here. I don't feel like this student should qualify anymore and that he has plateaued in his progress. However, I've only worked with him for almost two months. I'm worried that the parents and team are going to push back. How would you explain this to the parents and team? Are there any additional informal assessments you would give him to add to the report? How do you word in your reports that "there's a deficit, but he can be successful in his life skills program and doesn't require direct speech therapy"? Am I even on the right track here?

Thanks for helping out a newbie, I appreciate all and any advice.
