Credit Cards For Nobody
I find it interesting how people like George Kamel, who went thousands into credit card debt when he was younger, and had to climb out, or Dave who famously leveraged a ton of debt and then lost everything, didn’t come out of those experiences with the perfectly rational response of:
“Maybe *I* personally am just not capable of using credit cards responsibly and I should avoid them”
Instead they cling to “NOBODY is capable of using a credit card properly and they must be demonized”
It’s a very self centric response and projection of their own personal circumstances on everyone else, no?
While folks like the Money Guys regularly preach “personal finance is personal”, the Ramsey personnel are very slow to say anything along those lines and infer a much more narrow path with no room to budge, even across decades of changes in society.
As a teacher myself, one of the most basic fundamentals is learning how to individualize material for each…individual, because everyone’s behaviors, learning styles, and circumstances are vastly different. Seems like Ramsey peeps lack this skill and instead choose to project their own issues and pitfalls on their listeners.
(Ex. They can’t fathom someone retiring in their 40s or 50s while still living with purpose, even if they are financially able, probably because they themselves would struggle with motivation/purpose without their main job)
