Best life alert type item for parent

My dad is very independent. Hes 90 and walks on his own, does projects in his garage, and hates the idea of being coddled. But after some recent medical issues that has him currently in the hospital we would feel better if he had a life alert like item if/when he returns home. However life alert goes to a call center from what ive read. Are there any better alternatives that call directly to 911 as well as giving some kind of alert to our phones. (Preferably no monthly fee but if there is oh well.)

Ive seen a lot of bad reviews for silent beacon.
