Ditching the Smart Phone -- What Camera Should I Buy?

Howdy folks.

Ditching my smart phone addiction. I need a decent camera, and after an hour of googling I'm out of my depth.

Budget is a flexible $300. I want to take pictures of my wife & kids, and our adventures.

Would prefer it if it is repairable, good quality, and decently durable.

Smart phone, dropping the addiction

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?

Family, wife & kids, occasional scenery

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?

Both, but probably 90% photography

Would prefer point and shoot, I think. Willing to be wrong!
