Wedding tipping

📖🚫Personal Stories - Anti

I went to a wedding over the last year and the venue provided housing for guests as an add on. The housing was paid for by the bride and groom. Inside the different housing types, there were tip jars sitting on countertops placed by the venue owners. I’m assuming this was a tip jar for the cleaners who have to come in and change bedding, change towels, etc. On top of requesting a tip for the room which was already paid for, there was a morning check out list of chores to do and I’ll assume a cleaning fee was also charged to the bride and groom - so what am I tipping?

On this same note, there were two nights with bar services provided. Each night, the bartenders sat out multiple tip jars on their counters. This is for a wedding. The service and the drinks have already been paid for. What’s with the tip jars?

I guess I’m just stunned at the nickel and diming at this point. Weddings are already charged extra just because it’s a wedding. The bartenders were already paid. The housing was already paid for. Why are venue owners and contractors still having the nerve to beg for tips from guests at a wedding? Is this new? I have never experienced so many tip jars at any event, and have never seen them at a wedding before. It was super tacky. I blew over a grand to fly to the wedding where the service staff also thought it appropriate to pester the guests for money for an event that’s already overpriced. Weird.
