There was a stupid and kind of racist version of this post done earlier. So Im fixing that with a far better example for Black Panther:

1. **Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon in "The Batman"** \- traditionally portrayed exclusively as a white man in the comics. However, he is also one of the true honest and moral cops in Gotham with a desire to do what's right and take down corruption. There's something profound and rich if Gordon is African within the police system, as African Americans understand the corruption of cops in a way that's different white Americans.
2. **Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton in "Hamilton"** \- the entire show is full of race swapping, but the idea that Hamilton in particular is played by a Latino man is such a cool idea. The show portrays the American Revolution and founding of the USA as told by actors of Afro/Latino/Asian descent playing the white historical figures. Miranda puts so much emphasis on the fact that Hamilton is an immigrant from the Caribbean, which is all the more relevant today when factoring the experiences of immigrants and Latino Americans today.
3. **Tenoch Huerta as Namor / Kukulkan in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever** \- For the second Black Panther film, Namor the Sub-Mariner is reimagined as a Indigenous Mayan mutant and being of a culture of Mayans who escaped colonization & became adapted to living underwater. A lot of research was put into portraying Namor & his people right with actors of Indigenous heritage chosen & even speaking Mayan (a language & culture still alive in Southern Mexico & Central America). Namor also being called Kukulkan is a nod to the Feathered Serpent god of the Maya, whom the Aztec call Quetzalcoatl. None of this is for show & is further to add to Black Panther‘s themes of fighting against colonization against foreign powers**.**

the OG post made the stupid “Ryan Gosling is Black Panther” joke and I am frankly sick of it. There is genuine good discussion to be had when characters get adapted into different heritages and what that says for the narrative of their work.

[Interesting Trope] Race Swaping Adapted Characters adds more layers & subtext to a role / story than the original
