Question on performance bottleneck / FPS monitoring
Hi all,
I have a question regarding the performance of MSFS2024 on PC. Overall, I'm satisfied with the performance I'm getting (around 70fps), and the level of detail is fine with me — although less "popping in" of terrain details would be nice. Occasionally I get a kind of "stutter" in my fps. This happens especially during take-off and landing, but during the test flight I just did, I also experienced it while turning inside a cloud.
It should also be noted that I see the effect far more often in airliners compared to GA planes like a Cessna.
With the debug tools FPS monitor I obtained the following example.
- full scence
As you can see, I'm playing on an ultrawide 49inch screen
- focus on fps monitor
Now, this is the first time I have enabled this. But the red markings in the FPS graph are exactly when I get the "stutter". From what I read there, I'm "Main Thread" bound, which means CPU I guess.
- Resource Monitor
At the same time however, the CPU does not look particularly busy. I do admit though I did forget to look at every single one of the cores.
Some comments on my hardware: I'm using a Geforce 4080, CPU is an i9-12900KF @ 3.2GHz and 32GB of RAM.
Is this effect known to anyone? And what are measures I could take to reduce this and/or further investigate it?
