Looking for that HL2/Descent 3/painkiller/FEAR fix... What are some modern(ish) games with cool physics weapons...

I'm talking pinning enemies, shooting black holes, firing steerable missiles/drones, grav guns, freeze/shatter rays... Goofy stuff... It seems like after the HL2 era we forgot how to make games interesting and just went back to regular pew pew guns (maybe with elemental flavor on top of spread/damage over time/etc)
