Looking for a premium eskate that can survive Philly

Discussion

I’m a pretty hardcore electric skater and ride all over Philadelphia. My last two boards have been the Backfire Zealot S and Zealot S2, and overall I’ve absolutely loved them. They’re fast, fun, and great for carving around the city.

The problem is that my S2 has been pretty unreliable. I feel like the potholes and rough streets in Philly have taken a toll on it — after a couple of hard impacts, the trucks seemed to deform, and I’ve also had recurring issues with the motors that eventually led to them burning out. To be fair, Backfire’s customer service has been great and they’ve been good about helping me out, but I’m at the point where I’d rather invest in something more premium and durable.

So I’m currently looking at higher-end boards, particularly the Lorenz Major V3 and some of the LaCroix options.

My main concern is whether these boards are actually worth the money for the kind of riding I do. I’m not just cruising around smooth bike paths — I’m carving through Philly streets, sometimes having to dodge cars and pedestrians, hit rough pavement, deal with potholes, etc. I want something that can take some abuse without constantly needing repairs. Additionally, I’m concerned the much larger wheels will feel less good to carve with.

For anyone who owns or has experience with higher-end boards:

Will I notice the switch and wheel size and type?

Are Lorenz or LaCroix boards actually worth the huge price jump?

How well do they hold up to hard impacts and rough urban riding?

Are they good for aggressive carving and maneuvering?

Are there any other premium boards I should be considering?

Most importantly, what would you buy if durability and a****ggressive city riding were the priorities?

I’m willing to spend the money for something genuinely better — I just don’t want to spend several thousand dollars on a board that’s going to have the same reliability issues as my S2.

Would love to hear from people who actually ride these boards hard, especially if you’re riding in a city with similarly terrible roads.
