Why do modern BMW’s depreciate badly even though they’re considered reliable?

Aren’t the B series of engines such as the B58, and B48 considered to be amongst the most reliable modern engines, however where I’m from they depreciate worse than Mercedes, let alone Toyota/Lexus which hold their values the best in the car market due to reliability.
