A reminder on helicopter warning sounds

There are two sounds for the SAM site lock on. Do not waste your flares!

1. There is when they are locking onto you, it will beep over and over until it locks.

2. When it is finally locked on, there is only a continuous beep, it will not stop until they either reload or look away.

THIS DOESN'T MEAN THEY HAVE FIRED YET.

Once you realize that you're being locked on to or are already locked on to, the best thing you can do is get as low possible and try to pinpoint where the SAM site is, or avoid it altogether.

Now, if you already know where it is, look for the grey plume of smoke that will come from the Talon 9K-SAM first. That means they have fired a missile is now locked onto your TAIL ROTOR.

Watch the missile approach, it can be daunting but WAIT until it gets a decent bit close to you, then flare and quickly either pitch up or pitch down for extra measure to move your tail out of the way.

There is one other sound, and it's a much more muffled/muted beep than the Talon's lock on, that is a Stingray, if you hear that, get low, use trees, cover from anything at all will help break that lock. Otherwise, pray.
