Game Idea: A psychological horror game based on "The Locust" (Doctor Nowhere), where your PC monitor becomes the portal.
Greeting everyone,
I’ve had this psychological horror game concept stuck in my head, but since I’m not a developer, I wanted to share it here. Maybe an indie dev looking for a fresh, creepy project will find this interesting!
The game is heavily inspired by "The Locust" (The Thumper) from Doctor Nowhere’s analog horror universe.
Here is my game idea:
The Story:
You play as a lonely university student living by themselves in a small apartment. Feeling isolated, you log onto your PC and use a messaging website to make friends. You get a message request from an account that seems incredibly nice, innocent, and kind. You start chatting with them on your computer every day, and they basically become your internet friend. You get so invested in this new friendship that you start to distance yourself from everything else.
The Twist:
Eventually, things get weird. You realize this online friend you've been talking to isn't human at all. It's The Locust. Because you became friends with it on your PC, it now has an anchor to your reality and starts coming for you.
If you don't react quickly enough when your screen glitches, its long, spindly black fingers will literally shatter the glass of your monitor from the inside and grab you.
The Multiple Endings:
I wanted the game to have a few different paths based on your choices! :>
Ending 1 (The Hiding Ending - Bad):
Out of pure panic, you shut down your PC, turn off the lights, and hide in a closet. But you forgot your TV in the living room was on. You hear the glass shatter, and the heavy footsteps of its 3-meter-tall, distorted body echoing through the house. It is an intelligent seeker, and hiding is useless.
It knows exactly how to find you.
Ending 2 (The Escape Ending - Ambiguous / "True Ending"?)
You hear the horrific thumping sound echoing inside your monitor. Instead of fighting it, pure panic takes over and you sprint straight out the front door to your car. You slam your foot on the gas, driving blindly into the pitch black night. As you glance at the rearview mirror, you could swear you see a towering, distorted silhouette sprinting right behind the car with terrifying speed.
The screen slowly fades to black.
Ending 3 (The Shattered Ending - Good / Traumatized)
To survive, you have to do the unthinkable. As the screen begins to glitch, you grab the nearest heavy object and violently smash your PC monitor into pieces. You spin around, hyperventilating, and shatter your smartphone screen, before rushing into the living room to destroy the TV. You completely sever its connection to your world. You survived the night, but the game ends with you sitting alone in the dark, surrounded by broken glass.
You are completely isolated, deeply paranoid, and severely traumatised, unable to ever trust an online "friend" again.
What do you guys think? Would you play a short indie horror game with this kind of vibe? If any developer wants to take this idea and make it a reality on Steam, please do!
