Stripe closed my account for "unacceptable risk" with zero disputes/chargebacks — appeal was denied within minutes of submitting
Looking for advice or an actual explanation, because Stripe support has given me neither.
Quick background: incorporated my company about 7 weeks ago, opened a business bank account, and started processing payments through Stripe the same week. We operate a pay-per-lead business — B2B, selling qualified leads to other small businesses who choose to buy them. Zero disputes. Zero chargebacks. Every transaction tied to a real, identifiable customer with an invoice or order record.
Two days ago I processed two larger payments from existing/repeat customers. The next day, Stripe flagged the account for a risk review, asked for "additional business information," and clawed back a payout that had already been released the day before. I submitted everything they asked for — business documentation, full transaction history, bank statements, the works — same day.
The denial came back within minutes of submitting. Account permanently closed, cited as "unacceptable level of risk." No specifics on what triggered it, no real appeal process, and they've since removed chat/call support from the account entirely, so I'm stuck communicating by email only.
There's close to $4,000 sitting in the account that was supposed to be paid out to me. Their closure notice said funds tied to pending/reversed charges would go back to customers, but was vague about the rest of the balance — and support has implied they may just hold onto it indefinitely rather than release it to me. Hoping that's not actually how this plays out, but it's hard to get a straight answer either way.
What's most frustrating is there's no chargeback, no fraud report, no customer complaint — nothing I can point to as "the reason." A few-minute turnaround on a "review" of a full documentation packet doesn't feel like an actual review at all.
Has anyone actually gotten a real explanation out of Stripe in this situation, gotten funds released after a closure like this, or gotten an account reinstated? Also curious if anyone knows whether a closure like this (with zero disputes) typically leads to being placed on MATCH or similar terminated-merchant lists, since that info doesn't seem to be publicly available anywhere reliable.
Appreciate any real insight — trying to understand what happened more than anything else at this point.
