Parents, I’d like to hear from you about something that happened at school.

My son was at school recently when he was kicked in the back while going down a slide. At the bottom, he bumped into another student, and that student then attempted to punch him.
What concerns me most is that I was never notified by the school about what happened. No one called me, sent me a message, or informed me when I picked him up. My son told me about it himself when I picked him up from after-school care around 7:30 that evening. The incident happened at approximately 11:30 that morning.
He also wasn’t seen by the nurse until almost an hour later. Another teacher ended up taking him out of lunch and bringing him to the nurse to be checked.
I’m trying to understand what other parents have experienced. If your child has been involved in an incident at school—especially one involving another student, an injury, or an attempted assault—were you notified by the school the same day?
I’m not looking to start an argument or identify anyone. I’m simply trying to understand what is considered normal school communication and whether other parents have experienced something similar.
Please feel free to comment or message me privately if you’re comfortable sharing your experience.
