Need help navigating the themes of Kafka on the shore because wtf.

Spoiler

Damn. Im on page 134 and i just finished the part where Kafka spends the night at Sakura’s (friend’s) place. I’m deeply disturbed, disgusted and tbh terrified. And i just found out that this incest theme indeed doesn’t end here but that it’s actually an important part of the story. (?)

Please tell me this has some point other than Murakami being a creep. I want to know if the symbolism and disturbance are actually worth it and if they actually add something to the story.

Ive read about it relating to greek mythology and tragedy of Oedipus, but I’m wondering if there’s more to it…
