Steps seem low?

just got mine and I LOVE it. I have tried Fitbit, garmin, and Apple Watch and still haven’t found the right one for me. I am really loving my band but the steps don’t seem to always register. is this a common problem or is mine maybe malfunctioning? steps are the main reason I got it
