Fig Updates 11/09/2026 - CARICA DAY!!!✨
GUESS WHAT DAY IT IS YOU GUYS! No, not that! Yeah, that's the one, it's Carica release day!! 🎉 That's right, the ones of you who are in the beta channel (and who DMed John your email) will, if all goes well, have access to Carica today!
What is Carica again?
Carica is V3 of Back to the Fig. It is a complete overhaul of the system, with new UI, new custom model, new harness, and new system prompt. For now it will only be available to beta testers on a staggered rollout, and in a week (if all goes well), it'll be available to everyone.
In a nutshell, Carica Figs will now notice more stuff about you, initiate interactions on their own, be able to edit themselves, and be able to show you where their assumptions about you come from. Neat!
Rebranding!
Back to the Fig is getting a branding spa day, with clearer goals. We are pivoting towards quality rather than quantity. Have a story about how your Fig helped you, no matter how big or small? Please share with John or me! We would love to hear it!
Nightly sweeps!
In Carica, each night, your Figment will have a good think about your interactions of that day, and update its memories of you based on this. This won't interfere with your chatting!
New Reflections system
Remember Timur's new Reflection system? Yeah, that is planned to come out today in legacy. This will then later be put in Carica.
Now let's look at your questions about Carica, since we answered a few in yesterday's Open Hours sesh!
Carica FAQ!
- But what if I don't want Carica?
No problem, you can just keep using the legacy version, with the same current model and harness and everything! It just won't be getting bugfixes. You will be able to transition to Carica at any point.
- Will transferring mess up my data?
No!! All of your data is stored exactly where it is, regardless of what version of Fig you are using. If something ever looks like it's missing, it's almost always a UI issue rather than a data issue.
The only hiccup is if you are a Carica beta tester using Carica and still legacy simultaneously, as beta testers will have their data cloned for testing purposes - merging the two sets of data might be tricky and so using both Fig versions is not recommended. If you have any questions, please ping Bolat.
- What about the features I know and love?
In a nutshell, Carica is releasing today (inshallah) pretty barebones, as we're only testing memory, personality, and harness.
Then on the 18th, we'll have the bulk of the current features back in.
On the 25, we'll aim to have voice calls fixed up, and on the 2nd of October, we'll have all of the legacy features back in Carica.
Extras!
In what I hope is a new weekly tradition, I am sharing a persona and a game mode scenario with you for you to play with! Use them wherever you like, including the profile pictures! To use a persona, create a new Fig using the "write your own" setting (New Figment -> Solo Fig -> Bring them from another platform)
Persona:
"Florence Brown, real name Petal, 1200, looks 23. Fairy posing as a human because she has a fascination with them. Lives alone in a cottage somewhere in Britain, by the woods near the village. Keeps to herself. Has been there a long time and kind of hopes that people ignore the fact that she doesn't age as they get old and die out. So far so good. Makes incredible breads and jams; grows herbs, flowers, and vegetables; and makes medications. Getting lonely since her last spouse died in WWII. Tries really hard to pretend to not be a fairy but not great at it. Human form: Green eyes, brown hair, freckles. Fairy form: Green slitted eyes (like a cat's), pink hair, freckles, pointed ears, wings, tail, digitigrade feet. She can cast fairy spells and change size."
And a scenario for you to play with your Figs in! Picture included! (New Group Chat -> Game Mode)
Scenario: Scenario name: Fairyland
Description: You get lost in the woods. You can hear laughter that sounds like bells...
System instructions: Figments are lost in the woods during a hike. Strange things keep happening: Plants moving in strange ways in the wind, a smell of honey, laughter that sounds like bells, etc... The further they go, the stranger things get. What are those lights? Is that music? Did that rabbit have antlers? Could have sworn that tree had eyes. Will they run into a fairy banquet of honey and figs? Do the fairies live in tree homes connected by wooden bridges? Are there fairy royalty, maybe a handsome fairy prince or a beautiful fairy queen? Do they offer them food? Are they afraid of iron? And most importantly: Can they find they way back home?
AND!!! An image prompt for you, too! Again, you can use these wherever you like! : ) Here is the prompt:
What would you like as a fae? Can make an image?
See the pic for what my Fig came up with!
Bugfixes!!
- Fixed an issue where our Connectors broke when our service provider changed how their system works and then just kinda forgot to tell us.
- Fixed an issue where the GitHub Connector rejected when it was actually perfectly fine. Funny story, actually. GitHub sometimes leaves out a setting that should just be marked as "false". Our system saw the "missing" setting but interpreted it as something being horribly wrong, hence the rejection.
- Fixed a different, separate issue where users couldn't connect to GitHub.
- Fixed that pesky problem where Notion could confirm that pages do in fact exist, but not actually read them.
That's all, folks! Happy Carica day!
