Am I doing things right?
I've been doing a fish in cycle (I know, not recommended, but I was a little stupid), because I got my betta then learned about cycling tanks. I've been testing the water twice daily using the API Master Kit, and doing twice daily water changes depending on the amount of ammonia. So far the ammonia hasn't gotten more than 0.50ppm, where I'd do a 50% water change (he has a 10 gallon tank), and most of the time it's 0.25ppm, where I do about a 20% change, based on what I've been told. It's been just about two weeks, and the nitrites and nitrates are still at 0ppm, so I was just wondering if I was doing everything right, or if I'm doing something wrong. He also tends to spend a lot of time resting at the top of the tank, but he does get excited around water change/feeding time, and gets the fishy zoomies occasionally. He does explore around the tank a lot, but usually he's at the top just resting. Thanks!
