Had a really weird and threatening encounter with a group of teenagers at Parade Ground tonight

AskJammu

TL;DR: Went to Parade Ground for a run with my sister around 7:30 PM. A group of 3 teenagers followed us into a poorly lit area, accused me of hitting one of them 3–4 days ago, but kept changing their story and couldn’t provide a day, time, or location. Other people nearby also realised their story didn’t make sense. When I decided to leave, they started abusing me and threatening to beat me if they saw me outside. My sister got really scared, so I called my friends and we left together. Not looking to involve police or start a fight — just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar at Parade Ground and what you’d do in this situation.
Something genuinely unsettling happened to me tonight at Parade Ground and I’m posting here mainly because I want to know how others would handle something like this.
I went for a run today and my sister wanted to come along, so I took her with me. We reached Parade Ground around 7:30 PM. It was already getting somewhat dark, so we started with a walk/run.
After about a lap, two kids, probably around 16–18 (could be slightly older), passed us. While passing, one of them hit my thigh with the helmet he was carrying. Not exactly a shove, but definitely enough that I noticed it.
They stopped ahead.
After we crossed them, they started running behind us. When we started walking, they started walking too.
Then, when we were in a relatively poorly lit area, three of them approached us.
They accused me of slapping one of them 3–4 days ago.
I told them they had the wrong person.
Then their story started changing.
First, they said they had seen me driving past on a scooty and hitting the guy.
So I asked him:
“What colour is my scooty?”
He immediately changed the story and said I had actually come from behind with four other guys on foot, hit him in the back and ran away.
At that point I realised something wasn’t adding up.
There were three other guys sitting nearby, so because I was with my sister and was outnumbered by three guys carrying helmets, I asked those guys to come over and hear what was happening.
I explained everything and the three kids repeated their accusation.
So I asked them some basic questions:
What day did this happen?
“Teen-chaar din pehle.”
What time?
They didn’t know.
Where exactly?
They couldn’t give a clear answer.
Eventually the response to the time question was basically:
“Maar padte hue koi time thodi dekhta hai.”
For context, I work most of the day. My usual evening routine is either running or working out at home. The Monday/Tuesday 3–4 days before this happened were actually my rest days, and after work I was at home. I hadn’t even gone out.
The three guys who had listened to both sides also seemed to realise that the story wasn’t making much sense. They told me to just leave it and go.
I was ready to do exactly that.
But then these kids started abusing me heavily and began making threats, basically saying that I had “got away” there and that if they saw me outside or on the road they’d beat me.
At this point I wasn’t particularly concerned about myself, but my sister was genuinely scared.
I called a few of my friends, they came there, and we left together because my sister was worried that the kids might be waiting outside.
I’m not posting this to identify anyone or start some fight. I don’t want any confrontation with these people.
What bothers me is how bizarre the whole thing was.
They followed us, waited until we were in a less-lit area, accused me of something I didn’t do, gave completely different versions of what supposedly happened, and then threatened me when other people told them to leave.
I genuinely have no idea whether they mistook me for someone else, were deliberately making the whole thing up, or what their motive was.
Has anyone else experienced something similar at Parade Ground, especially in the evening?
And for people who regularly run/walk there: would you change anything about your routine after something like this?
I’m probably going to continue running, but definitely not taking my sister there alone in the evening again.
Not looking for revenge or a fight — just trying to understand what the sensible thing to do is after an encounter like this.
P.S. I used ChatGPT to help organise/write this post because I was pretty shaken up and didn’t know how to structure everything. The incident itself and everything described above is completely real.

This is a throwaway account for obvious reasons.
