Crazy Theory: Future Industries played a part in Republic City's destruction.

SpoilerTheory

It's been pointed out by many that you can see Future Industries in the trailer, seemingly in front of or surrounding the spirit portal during what could be the start of the Cataclysm.

This had led to speculation on how Asami, who was the CEO during Korra's era, connects to all of this other than having her company logo printed on the building. Did she.....play a part in the destruction of RC?

Heck No!

I don't Asami betrayed Korra because she developed corporate greed. However, I do suspect that Future Industries played a part in RC's destruction.

My theory is that RC's spirit portal was growing unstable because humans, particularly corporations, were trying to utilize spirit energy again. Wanting to end the abuse, Asami used her company resources to build a building that surround the portal in order to protect the city while she and Korra try to stabilize it. Things were fine but something that Asami had no control over happened and it led up to that tragic day. If I had to guess what could've happened, I would say either.

a) Asami was being undermined by someone she thought she could trust. Whether it was an undercover employee from a rival company, a business partner, or her own heir (she could have relatives we don't know of) had their own agenda. They took advantage of the flaws within her company to get close to the portal. They did whatever they were doing, something reacted, and BOOM! the Cataclysm begins.

b) The company is under new management either because Asami died of old age (if Korra lived very long), retired, or was ousted by board members for whatever reason (ie, the board thought that Asami was making bad decisions, a scandal broke out that forced her step down, etc). Korra tried carry on Asami's legacy by making compromises with the new CEO but they wouldn't listen. They ignored Korra's warnings until it was too late.

Whatever the case is, it wouldn't be a stretch to believe that Korra and Asami did everything they could maintain balance between the spirits and the ever growing technology in RC Things were likely manaagble until something beyond their control screwed everything up.

What are your thoughts?
