What should a pre-purchase inspection cover on a used Japanese car?

I’m lining up an independent pre-purchase inspection on a used Japanese car before it goes to its new owner, and it got me thinking about what people actually expect the report to cover. Is a basic mechanical check enough, or should it include things like underbody rust, previous repairs, hybrid battery health, scan data and checking the auction history where available? What have you found useful on inspections, and what tends to get missed?
